It's Rosh Hashanah & the Head of the New Year!

USA Today reports click here, "This year, Rosh Hashanah begins at sunset on Sunday, Sept. 29, and ends two days later at sunset on Tuesday, Oct. 1. It’s the start of the Jewish month of Tishrei, or Tishri, which falls in September or October, according to the Gregorian calendar. It’s the first month of the civil year for Jews or the seventh month of the ecclesiastical year."

The article goes on to provide an excellent overview of this important feast of the Lord. God established times and seasons naturally and spiritually speaking.  One of the ways He marks both is through feasts.  Most refer to these feasts as Jewish feasts but in truth Ezekiel 44:24 reveals that the feasts actually are His feasts.

Why even the book of Zechariah foretold that there would be others who'd recognize the purpose of the Jewish feasts.  It was a time to seek the Lord (emphasis/underlines added).

Rosh Hashanah is called the head of the year and is the start of the 10 Days of Awe wherein inward retrospection is encouraged.  It's a personal assessment and an opportunity to determine if there is anything God wants you to repent of and or anyone whom you need to address to make things right.  USA Today, "It marks the beginning of the 10 “Days of Awe,” in which Jews focus their attentions on repentance and reflection leading up to Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, considered to be holiest day of the Jewish year."

The beauty of this is, every feast pointed in someway to Jesus Christ and God's plan for mankind.  Why we find this concept of introspection in scriptures like 1 Corinthians 11:28 where is says, "But let a man examine himself..."  It encourages a discipline not borne of the the law of "have to" but rather motivated by love and "want to."

Zechariah 8:18 - 9:1
Then the word of the Lord of hosts came to me, saying, “Thus says the Lord of hosts:
‘The fast of the fourth month, The fast of the fifth,
The fast of the seventh, And the fast of the tenth,
Shall be joy and gladness and cheerful feasts
For the house of Judah. Therefore love truth and peace.’
“Thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘Peoples shall yet come,
Inhabitants of many cities;  The inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying,
“Let us continue to go and pray before the Lord, And seek the Lord of hosts.

I myself will go also.” Yes, many peoples and strong nations
Shall come to seek the Lord of hosts in Jerusalem, And to pray before the Lord.’
“Thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘In those days ten men from every language of the nations shall grasp the sleeve of a Jewish man, saying, “Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.” ’ ”

It is customary for God to speak through His apostles, prophets and holy prophetic voices at the start of each new year.  I've seen God do this using both the Hebraic and Gregorian calendar.  Here's the beauty of this.  You'll find God shared His word with mankind through the Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic languages.  The Gregorian calendar is based off Greek culture.

So what's God saying for this new year?
I'd like to encourage you to share any word, dream of vision Christ has given you that pertains to this new year.

Secondly, I'm going to encourage us to do 1 Corinthians 14:28 and to judge the words.

Decide, is the word from the Lord.  Yes or no!

Is the one who gave the word of good character (Matthew 7:15-20)?

If this word is from the Lord, then what action does He require of me?

What else am I looking for?  I'm looking for God's present word to His body?  Why?  Because Psalms 68:11 says, "The Lord gave the word; Great was the company of those who proclaimed it:"

We want to be good stewards of God's word.  Once it is determined, we will give voice to His word on earth as it is in heaven.  In doing so, we'll become like His "rod of iron" which He uses to rule the nations.
